Health & Safety

Health & Safety Booklet

GHI recognise the importance of health, safety and welfare in conducting our operations, and believe in the active participation of every member of the company to achieve and maintain the highest practical standard of accident loss and prevention.

We have an excellent Health & Safety record and constantly review and develop our practices, to ensure the highest standards are achieved and maintained. Consequently we are able to state that GHI has never received an enforcement order or prohibition notice from the Health & Safety Executive.

Health & Safety Policy

GHI recognises the importance of health, safety and welfare in the successful operation of our activities and believes in the active participation of every member of GHI to achieve and maintain the highest practicable standard of accident and loss prevention.

As such, our activities are conducted with due regard to all statutory requirements, and the appropriate safeguards against exposing employees, sub-contractors and the general public to risks to their health and safety.

As with other operational functions, GHI’s responsibilities for safety start at Director Level and cascade down to all personnel.

Practices & Procedures

Our site safety procedures follow the legislation established under CDM 2007, with each project subject to specific assessment of risks prior to site commencement. These risk assessments and the necessary measures required to minimise or eliminate the identified hazards are incorporated into our Induction Training procedure in an itemised / methodical fashion. All persons entering a site must be inducted prior to commencing project works.

Additionally, GHI has a structured procedure in place using the CITB Toolbox training guide. Toolbox talks are carried out on a fortnightly basis, and a full register of all training is retained, and results are reported in the Quarterly Health and Safety Performance Review

As a basic premise, each site has a weekly Health and Safety Review meeting to focus on H&S issues. We train extensively throughout the company, and ensure Health and Safety is covered in every meeting at each level. Consequently, Project Site Managers have induction training and toolbox talks, followed by 2 weekly H&S review meetings with appointed sub contractors.

Any project incidents will be reported in accordance with RIDDOR, and would be subject to assessment by CHG Safety Management, who provide a written report on any necessary remedial actions.

CSCS

All GHI employees have undergone training as part of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme with all management personnel and site operatives qualified or currently completing this process.

Supply Chain

All Subcontractors must comply with our stringent Health & Safety requirements and induction processes. Subcontractors and Suppliers are selected from an approved database after successful completion of our prequalification process. Those selected are measured and reviewed for competency, safety, quality and value for money on a regular basis.

With all approved core sub-contractors we enter into a Subcontractor Charter, which records a willingness of both parties to work in a team environment for the benefit of both parties and the client.

Consultants

GHI utilise the services of CHG Safety Management as our independent health and safety advisors. CHG ensures that all GHI policies and procedures are in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive policy, objectives and arrangements, as well as regularly monitoring our H&S practices and reviewing our policy to ensure it is relevant and up to date.

CHG inspect / audit our sites to ensure compliance to CDM regulations, utilising their extensive experience delivering health and safety training and providing advice and consultancy for minimising risk at work
